‘American Idol’: Top 10 Totally Kill It With Guest Judge Kelly Clarkson In The House
Only ten contestants are left after the Feb. 25 episode of American
Idol, and the race toward crowning one final champion is tighter than ever.
Judges
Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr.,
Keith
Urban and special guest,
Kelly Clarkson, were blown
away by all the performances, but it’s all in the American voters’ hands to
decide who will move on. Get a full recap of everything that went down right
here!
With
Trent Harmon, Dalton Rapattoni, La’Porsha Renae
and
Olivia Rox all announced safe in the Feb. 24 episode, there
were six spots to go — but ten singers left. Host
Ryan Seacrest
announced the remaining members of the Top 10 in no particular order:
Tristan McIntosh,
Sonika Vaid,
Gianna
Isabella, Mackenzie Bourg, Avalon Young and
Lee Jean.
Congratulations to all! Of course, that was just the beginning of these singers’
big night — they still had to perform for America’s votes in hopes of being
called safe next week!
To help critique these amazing vocalists, a very pregnant Kelly sat on the
other side of the judges table than she was on 15 years ago during Season 1 in
the show. No better person to help out in this final season, right?! Kicking the
night off was Olivia, and she stripped things down to sing a beautiful rendition
of
Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally.” Her voice just gets more and
more breathtaking every week! Stream American Idol and more by signing up
for Amazon Prime RIGHT HERE.
Next up was Gianna, who took a similar route to Olivia by starting soft and
then really getting into the big notes when she performed “Listen”
by
Beyonce. Is that voice even real?! She was SO good.
Unfortunately, the judges didn’t think it was her best performance (“It was
a little shaky,” Jennifer noted), but we think America has enough faith to push
Gianna through.
Lee was next to take the stage, and with nothing but his voice an acoustic
guitar, he totally commanded the room with
Bon Iver’s “Skinny.”
The audience was clapping along with the beat the whole time, and the judges
praised Lee for sticking to what he’s good at, but warned him that he might have
to change things up to stand out in the future.
Singing next was Avalon, and her performance of “Stitches” by
Shawn
Mendes was something different and allowed her to show off her amazing
tone. The judges weren’t overly impressed (except for Kelly, who loved it!), but
the audience did not agree with the critique — clearly Avalon is a fan
favorite!
Next up, Dalton sang an upbeat version of “Hey There Delilah” by
the
Plain White T’s, and it was SO refreshing! The crowd went
nuts from the very beginning, and Dalton not only proved that he is a great
singer, but made it clear he can transform just about any song into his own. We
think Keith described it best: “It was like electric barnyard — VERY cool.”
Totally!
Tristan performed country band
Dan + Shay’s song “Nothin’
Like You” next, and she managed to bring some power to the normally soft-spoken
song. The judges noted that the 15-year-old seemed a little uncomfortable during
the performance, but were clearly beyond impressed that someone so young is able
to do what she does. So are we!
Fan favorite Mackenzie took the stage next (how adorable is he!), and
expertly played guitar while singing “I See Fire” by
Ed
Sheeran. Mackenzie is always so calm, cool and collected, and even
though he doesn’t have a powerhouse voice, his uniqueness and ability to never
falter continues to be his strong point.
La’Porsha never disappoints when she performs, and tonight was no different.
She toned things down a little this week for a rendition
of
Rihanna’s “Diamonds,” and her voice totally did all the
talking. The judges couldn’t keep their eyes off her they were so captivated,
and they even gave her the first standing ovation of the night — the crowd
literally couldn’t stop clapping and cheering!
Singing next was Sonika and we absolutely loved her performance of “Bring Me
To Life” by
Evanescence. It’s not easy to keep such a high
pitch for a whole song like Sonika did…it was totally impressive! And those big
notes? I mean….they were out of this world! Definitely a standout.
Closing out the Top 10 performances was Trent, and what a way to finish
things out that was! He absolutely killed it singing “Like I Can” by
Sam
Smith and had the crowd bopping and clapping along the whole time.
Obviously, the judges loved it, and showered Trent with compliments. So
great!
Of course, we couldn’t end the show without hearing Kelly sing! She proved
why she’s the original American Idol by performing her emotional song
“Piece By Piece,” and it was absolutely incredible. And can you believe she’s
just seven weeks away from giving birth!?
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of the Top 10’s
performances? Who are YOU going to be voting for to keep in the competition?!
Only eight will go through next week, so get to voting!
